Notions of Special Creation Theory
Notions of a special creation theory or any altogether tremendous means of production is quite preposterous! “Special Creation” is declared to apply to many higher species in addition to to the species of a genus, and not even Mr. Darwin’s toughest critics try to propose that the earliest bird, reptile, or fish must have been “specially created.” And this enormous, this completely unprecedented change in public opinion has been the outcome of the influence of one man, and was brought out in only twenty years! This is the solution to those who continue to exert that the “origin of species” was not yet discovered. We may accept all this, just as we might confess that there are large difficulties in the manner of a good comprehension of the origination and nature of the solar system and of the astral universe. But we distinguish Darwin as the Newton of natural history, just so surely as we admit that the discovery and demonstration by Newton of the law of gravitation determined order in place of chaos and positioned a sure foundation for all future study of the universe, so certainly has Darwin, by his uncovering of the law of natural selection and his manifestation of the great rule of the preservation of usable variations in the struggle for life made a good origination for all potential study of nature.
I want to point out the attitude Darwin took of his study, and what it was that he alone claimed to have done, the following passage of the introduction to the Origin of Species should be carefully studied. “Although much remains obscure, and will long continue to bet obscure, I can entertain no doubt, after the most intentional and dispassionate judgment of which I am capable, that the view which most naturalists until recently harbored and which I formerly entertained is incorrect. I am fully confident that species are not changeless; but that those belonging to the same descendents of some other and generally extinct species, in the same manner as the recognized varieties of any one species are the descendents of that species. Furthermore, I am certain that Natural Selection has been the most important, but not the exclusive, process of modification.”
