Women Make Their Mark in Poker
poker is not just for men. Several women players have risen through the casino online ranks to win big money and the respect of men players. This year, three professional women poker players have been inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame: June Field, Jan Fisher and Cyndy Violette. They join Linda Johnson, Marsha Waggoner, Susie Issacs and Barbard Enright who were nominated last year.
The installation ceremony, scheduled for June 5, 2009, will be hosted by Mike Sexton. The festivities will be preceded the day before, June 4, by a special “Poker Gives” charity tournament at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas. The online poker Gives charity was founded by Sexton, Johnson, Fisher and Lisa Tenner. The funds raised are donated to four charities selected by the founders.
June Field made her mark in the poker world as the entrepreneurial founder of CardPlayer Magazine, one of the largest poker publications worldwide. She also launched the magazine’s popular Card Player Cruises and Classic Poker Cruises.
Jan Fisher’s connection with poker includes serving as a statistician with the World Poker Tour; being a co-founder of the Tournament Director’s Association; and a proactive partner in the Card Player Cruises. She also writes a column for Poker Player Magazine; and is a member on the board of several professional poker player associations.
Cyndy Violette is a Full Tilt-sponsored professional who won a WSOP bracelet in 2004. She also competed in three final tables at the 2005 WSOP and made it to the cash six times. Her appearances at the table have been widely televised; and she has aunched her own line of poker clothing and accessories.
