Being a Polite Poker Player

All forms of poker are highly social games where interacting with other players is just as important as interacting with the cards themselves. Due to the communal nature of poker, it is important to follow a few basic rules of etiquette so that you do not bother the other players. There would be nothing worse than having great poker skills but being unable to use them because of poor people skills.

The first basic poker etiquette rule is to mind your own business. This means don’t comment on a game if you are not playing, don’t comment on other people’s playing styles, and don’t make comments about the dealer. Stick to your cards and try to play them properly. If you are talking out of turn you are just making a whole bunch of background noise that no one will listen to anyway.

After you have mastered the ability to keep to yourself, you need to learn how to play neatly. Playing neatly means that you need to avoid sloppy mistakes like accidentally revealing your cards to other players. Mishaps like that are the marks of an amateur, and no one wants to play with someone who doesn’t understand the game.

Remember that your overall online poker experience is dependent on how the other people at the table perceive you. If you are an affable player that makes the game enjoyable for everyone, you will be sure to always have a few people around who are wiling to play a hand with you. Remember that the dealer also has a huge say in your overall poker experience. Always tip the dealer and always tip liberally
